How To Measure for Timber Gates

How to measure your timber gate before ordering

Use this guide to check the opening, ground clearance and side clearances for your timber gate. The dimensions below assume level ground and a gate swing of up to 110 degrees. If your ground slopes, the opening is out of square, or you are unsure, contact us before ordering.

For Single & Pedestrian Gates

Notes: Assumes level ground over the swing of the gate (for the full opening to 110 degress) and along the line of the gate in the closed position

A - 10mm gap between gate and inside of post/wall or jamb

B - 10mm gap between gate and inside of post/ wall or jamb

C - 40mm gap between bottom of gate and ground (highest point)

D - 25mm between top of post (exc post head) and top of gate (inc. gate horn)

For Double & Driveway Gates

Notes: Assumes level ground over the swing of the gate (for the full opening to 110 degress) and along the line of the gate in the closed position

A - 20mm gap between gates (for double gates only)

B - 10mm gap between gate and inside of post/ wall or jamb

C - 10mm gap between gate and inside of post/ wall or jamb

D - 40mm gap between bottom of gate and ground (highest point)

E - 25mm between top of post (exc post head) and top of gate (inc. gate horn)
